Secondary containment bunds stored outdoors are vulnerable for collecting rainwater on impervious surfaces and can allow the rain water to potentially pool and become contaminated. If the containers and bunds cannot be covered, procedures for the removal of the potentially contaminated rain water need to be put in place. Testing the water, utilising filtering devices or transferring the liquid to an appropriate vessel for compliant disposal all need to be considered with the best compliant solution put into place for your work site. For storage units such as IBC’s stored on Bunds, after market covers can be purchased to protect the bund sump from filling with rain water. Bunded storage under cover or indoors is ultimately the best solution if possible.
