Most workplace spill contingency plans focus on ‘worst case scenario’ spill events, despite small spills making up the majority workplace incidents. The importance of having compliant contingency plans for ‘worst case spill scenarios’ is crucial, however it can be seen has highly negligent if a spill response plan is not put in place to respond to the regularity of small spills.
Small spills are often caused by ‘whoops’ moments like knocking a container of liquid off a bench, missing a funnel transferring liquid, overfilling a container, dropping or accidently kicking a container over, overspray, a leaky container, broken seal or even jugs or containers left unattended and forgotten about. There are plenty of reasons for small spills, but we are sure you get the idea.
Despite these nuisance spills often being a few litres or less and often not dangerous enough to rate as major spill event, they still need to be cleaned up. Providing staff in higher risk spill areas with small spill kits prevents extended down time. Staff can waste precious work time walking around in circles looking for something to take care of the spill. It is essential that the correct materials are used to clean up the liquid so the spill won’t end up in the ‘to hard basket’ and ignored. It may prevent the spill from entering a drain, prevent a potential slip hazard or stop the liquid from being walked through and spread throughout the facility. Besides, old dried out spills make a facility look grubby.

|
SpillSmart 15L Single Use Spill Kits are perfect in these typical workplace situations. Here’s why:
- Everything required to clean up a small spill is in the kit.
- The Spill Kits are compact and can be placed in locations such as workstations, under work benches, motor vehicles, loading docks and transfer stations etc.
- Ensures large Spill Kits kept on site remain stocked for the larger spill event risks they were bought for.
- Cleans up a spill fast, easy to use and reduces downtime.
- Low cost to purchase and easy to reorder.
- Promotes a positive safety culture.

|
Once the Single use Spill Kits are placed in the required areas of the facility a quick toolbox training session may be all that’s needed to let staff know they are available, how and when to use them and how they can organise replacement kits. These Spill Kits are also perfect to be kept in vehicles to easily access when working off site.
Being prepared for those most likely small regular spills is every bit as important as being ready to respond to those larger less likely ‘worst case spill’ scenarios. Contact your Envirosmart distributor for further information about this product and others in our range.
