Australia has been proactive in erosion control for many years. Erosion control programs in Queensland for instance have focussed on prevention and management of erosion since the 1950’s. Land disturbing activities such as agriculture and companies involved in an array of urban development projects, are certainly faced with the challenges of erosion control on a daily basis. The Queensland Government states that the 3 main principles to control erosion are:

- Protect soil surface with some form of cover
- Control runoff before it develops into an erosive force
